GRDS Conference

Reframing a conference around a new value proposition

Designing the brand identity for an annual design conference at SCAD.

Revamping for modern context and relevance.

Each year, SCAD’s Graphic Design department hosts a student conference featuring workshops, talks, and competitions. After years of leaning heavily into technical sessions during COVID, the department wanted to revive the event’s spirit—bringing back community, energy, and inspiration. We redefined the experience with an identity that champions idea-sharing, creative momentum, and collective growth.

A dynamic type system.

The identity centers on an abstract typographic motif that flows upward—symbolizing the rise and spread of ideas. Adaptable across formats, it carries embedded keywords that reflect the conference’s themes and interacts fluidly with photography and layout.

Developing brand guidelines.

The identity was captured and organized by a set of guidelines, helping future designers onboard and replicate the look & feel seamlessly.

An energetic motion motif.

In motion, the system expands with energy and lift, echoing the momentum of conversation, while smoother transitions deliver content with clarity and contrast.
